“Informatics tools to integrate clinical trials and high throughput molecular analysis to support the transition to tailored therapy”

Progress in finding better therapies for cancer treatment is hampered by the lack of opportunity to integrate biomedical data from disparate sources to enable translation of therapies from bench to bedside and back. Hence, a critical factor in the advancement of biomedical research and delivery is the ease with which data can be integrated, redistributed and analyzed both within and across functional domains. Novel biomedical informatics infrastructure and tools are essential for developing individualized patient treatment regimens based on the specific genomic signatures in each patient’s individual tumor. NCI, Center for Bioinformatics is developing a novel translational informatics platform called caIntegrator that allows researchers and bioinformaticians to access and analyze clinical and experimental data across multiple clinical trials and studies. The caIntegrator framework provides a mechanism for integrating and aggregating biomedical research data and provides access to a variety of data types (e.g. Immunohistochemistry (IHC), microarray-based gene expression, SNPs, clinical trials data etc.) in a cohesive fashion. developers Developers
The overall goal of caIntegrator project is to provide a framework with the infrastructural components needed to develop enterprise level translational applications such as Rembrandt and I-SPY. The framework leverages Java 2 Enterprise Edition, a hybrid star schema, and various open source technologies. [More]
